Free Random US City Generator — Pick a Random American City

The United States has over 19,000 incorporated cities and towns. This generator picks from 90 of the most significant US cities — ranging from massive metros like New York City and Los Angeles to mid-size cities like Des Moines, Providence, and Salt Lake City. Each result shows the city name, state, and approximate population so you get real context with every pick.

Filter by region to focus on a specific part of the country. The four Census Bureau regions are supported: Northeast (New York, Philadelphia, Boston area), South (Texas, Florida, Georgia), Midwest (Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota), and West (California, Colorado, Washington, Nevada). The South and West regions have the most cities in the list, reflecting actual US population distribution.

Common use cases: Geography teachers assigning "research a US city" projects. Trivia question generators for US geography rounds. Travel bloggers brainstorming their next destination. Developers building US address form validators who need realistic city names for test data. Tabletop RPG players setting a story in a real American city. Sales teams randomly assigning territories.

The population data is approximate and based on recent census estimates. Cities are included if they're among the most populous in the country or if they represent interesting geographic and cultural diversity — so you might get New York City (8.3M) or you might get Providence, Rhode Island (179K). Both are real, significant cities worth knowing about.

Generate in batches for assignment lists, or one at a time for a "random city of the day" feature. Copy all results as line-separated text to paste directly into a spreadsheet or document.
