Random Team Generator

Splitting a group of people into random teams is something that comes up constantly — classroom activities, office workshops, sports events, hackathons, game nights, and online competitions all need a fair, unbiased way to divide participants. Doing it manually by hand introduces unconscious bias. This tool removes that entirely.

How it works: Paste your list of names, one per line. Set the number of teams you want. Hit Shuffle. The tool uses a Fisher-Yates shuffle — the same algorithm used in card shufflers and fair lottery systems — to randomize the order, then distributes names across teams in a round-robin fashion. This means teams will always differ by at most one person when the total doesn't divide evenly.

The fairness guarantee: Every possible ordering of names has an equal probability of occurring. No name is more likely to end up on Team 1 than Team 3. Each reshuffle is completely independent of the previous one. This is important for contexts where perceived fairness matters — office team assignments, competitive splits, school groups.

Copy individual teams or the whole result. Shuffle again as many times as you want until you get a combination that works. The tool also shows member counts so you can immediately see how names distributed across uneven splits.
